Union Hospital Family Birth Center

Marshall Craft is honored to be the design partner with ChristianaCare on the renovation and upgrade of the Family Birth Center at Union Hospital, ChristianaCare’s Cecil County Campus, to help improve the labor and delivery experience of families in the County and surrounding communities.

The redesigned unit consists of eight labor and delivery rooms and three postpartum rooms. Designed to be calming and inviting, all rooms have been enlarged in size and with upgraded technology. Each room has a dedicated infant care area and a family zone.

In addition, the center houses an expanded triage area at the center’s entrance for patient intake. It comprises three private triage rooms, a tub room to assist with labor, and a staff work area.

The center also remodeled the continuing care nursery and created a more efficient workflow for care team members. For example, a circular pathway around the main nurses’ station was created for laboring patients to ambulate, potentially shortening labor time.

Marshall Craft has a longstanding partnership with ChristianaCare, having provided planning, programming, and design services on a number of patient unit renovation projects at their facilities in Maryland and Delaware.
