Behavioral Health Pavilion

With over half of the adult admissions for behavioral health services in Prince George’s County admitted to out-of-county hospitals in 2019, the Behavioral Health Pavilion aims to address the growing need for locally accessible acute inpatient behavioral health services. Located at the Doctors Community Hospital’s Lanham campus, this project involved a complete renovation of the existing two-story Magnolia Building. The 16-bed, 12,000-square-foot acute inpatient behavioral unit is a state-of-the-art clinical environment to safely serve patients and families in their treatment and healing. It also includes an 8-bed residential crisis center for long-term treatment, where patients can interact with one another and staff in a home-like setting.

To ensure the continuum of behavioral health services, the project included spaces to house outpatient and crisis programs for individuals facing mental health and substance use disorder challenges. The partial psychiatric hospitalization program provides services to both adults and adolescents with treatments available throughout the day. The intensive outpatient programs offer counseling and therapy services for patients suffering from anxiety, depression, and other serious and persistent mental illnesses. The urgent care center offers individuals with addiction disorders a safe place where they can be stabilized outside of an emergency department.

This project is part of Marshall Craft’s ongoing commitment to designing spaces that positively impact mental health patients’ healing journey.
